Responsibilities
- Observe and inspect construction activities for land development and municipal infrastructure projects, including site grading, roadway improvements, water distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems, and stormwater management facilities.
- Monitor contractor work to ensure compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, local regulations, and applicable engineering standards.
- Prepare detailed daily inspection reports documenting construction activities, site conditions, installed quantities, workforce/equipment on site, and overall project progress.
- Track and verify installed quantities to support payment applications, cost tracking, and project documentation.
- Capture and maintain photographic documentation of construction progress, milestones, and field conditions.
- Serve as a field liaison between contractors, municipal clients, utility agencies, and the design team to support communication and resolve field issues.
- Attend construction progress meetings and provide updates on work status, schedule adherence, and field challenges.
- Verify materials, equipment, and workmanship meet project specifications, quality standards, and contract requirements.
- Assist with review of shop drawings, RFIs, and change orders as directed by project engineers or managers.
- Monitor project schedules and proactively communicate potential delays or impacts to project management.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and report unsafe conditions or practices observed in the field.
- Coordinate with utility companies, municipalities, and other stakeholders during active construction operations.
- Support project closeout activities, including punch list development, final walkthroughs, and as-built documentation.
Qualifications
- 3 + years of experience in construction inspection or observation, preferably on land development and/or municipal infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of construction methods, materials, and field installation practices for utilities, roads, and site development.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with field reporting or construction management software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to multiple project sites as required.

Pay
The projected compensation range for this position is $45,000 to $85,000. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, skill set and location.
