CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR
Responsibilities
Counsults with staff and clients to determine project needs and goals.
Conducts independent field inspections for permitted construction and infrastructure projects.
Inspects grading and erosion control, issues compliance/violation notices, and tracks corrective actions.
Reviews trenching and street restoration work, including reinspection and warranty checks.
Inspects subdivision and frontage improvements (drainage, sewer, pavements, sidewalks, ADA, traffic markings).
Investigates complaints and ordinance issues related to grading and trenching; refers cases to appropriate agencies.
Special Working Conditions
Performs on-site field inspections and investigations which include: climbing ladders, descending into trenches, tanks and manholes; crawling through pipes; carrying, sampling, measuring and sing equipment; and walking on uneven or obstructed surfaces.
Regular hours anticipated, but may require shift, evening, night, weekend, or holiday weekend to accommodate unusual problems or workload and construction schedules.

Additional Job Information
$6,090 per month (SR-19) salary includes $1,157 shortage differential

Minimum Qualification Requirements
At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education Requirement: Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Responsible work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may substitute for education.
Experience Requirement: TWO (2) years of experience in inspecting or supervising construction work.
Must Be Able To Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and survey stakes.
Inspect materials and workmanship for compliance with approved specifications.
Identify proper construction practices and recognize deviations from standards.
Estimate quantities of work completed by contractors.
Operate and understand proper use of construction equipment.
Maintain accurate records and prepare inspection reports.
Examples Of Qualifying Experience: Inspectors, superintendents, trades supervisors, working trade supervisors, etc. with experience of such scope, level and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Substitution: Any one of the following will substitute for the required experience: An Associate's degree in architectural or engineering drafting from an accredited college or university; or in the Applied Trades, Architectural, Engineering and CAD Technologies, and Carpentry Technology programs at Honolulu Community College, or similar academic programs from an accredited college or university.
A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Engineering from an accredited college or university.
