About the role

Responsible for overseeing the general upkeep, maintenance, and installation of all facilities and equipment, including pipeline right-of-way, excavation, repairs, coating and backfilling pipelines, concrete work, painting, building erection, and weed control.

Responsibilities

  • Manage 3rd-party contractors to ensure installation, operation, and maintenance of gas facilities comply with Black Hills O&M Procedures, Engineering Standards, and Construction Standards.
  • Enforce Company Damage Prevention Program and One-Call procedures with contractors before and during encroachments and excavations.
  • Coordinate local Damage Prevention activities and provide oversight of contractors to ensure asset protection and compliance with company excavation procedures near pipeline facilities.
  • Participate in quality emergency responder programs and represent the company at meetings with landowners, public officials, emergency officials, and local organizations (e.g., One-Call, Pipeline Group, Soil Conservation).
  • Perform governmental compliance activities in daily work and with contractors (PHMSA, State Agencies, EPA, USFS, etc.).
  • Handle mapping, record keeping, and data entry for contractors per company policies.
  • Participate in developing O&M Procedures, Site-Specific Procedures, project scoping, cost estimates, and work plans.
  • Assist Construction Planning in project oversight and inspection.
  • Coordinate company contracts for 3rd-party inspectors, including RFPs, selection recommendations, and contract management.
  • Qualify and evaluate company contract inspectors.
  • Maintain all Operator Qualifications applicable to the job classification.
  • Carry a company-provided cell phone and be available to respond during working and non-working hours.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of gas construction/inspection experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills

  • Experience with job planning and prioritizing.
  • Knowledge of company policies, regulatory, and tariff requirements.
  • Experience in safe handling practices of flammable gases, liquids, and high-pressure systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret instructions.
  • Knowledge of operating costs associated with equipment in the area of responsibility.
  • High regard for personal safety, company assets, employees, and the public.
  • Intermediate computer skills (MS Office, operating systems, company software).
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals).
  • Ability to work from written and verbal instructions.
  • Dependable attendance and consistently high performance.
  • Ability to work in a team, follow directions, and adhere to schedules.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with combustible or flammable gas/liquids.
  • Ability to operate manual and powered equipment.
  • Professional interaction with customers and coworkers to ensure high customer satisfaction.

Pay

$32.36 - $48.41 per hour. Pay is based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity.
