About the role

Fabick Cat is expanding and seeks skilled Service Technicians specializing in Caterpillar (CAT) equipment for both Field Service Technicians and Shop Service Technicians positions. These roles are available in multiple Fabick Cat branch locations and offer healthcare benefits starting on Day 1.

Responsibilities

  • On-Site Maintenance and Repair: Travel to customer sites for scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of CAT equipment, including Bulldozers, Excavators, Loaders, and Articulated Trucks.

  • Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Utilize CAT diagnostic tools and manuals to identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.

  • Parts Replacement and Testing: Disassemble and assemble faulty parts, conduct tests, and adjustments to ensure proper functionality.

  • Emergency Repairs: Respond promptly to emergency service calls to minimize downtime.

  • Customer Interaction: Communicate with customers, provide service updates, explain technical issues, and offer recommendations.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of service activities, inspections, repairs, and parts usage.

  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to OSHA safety protocols while performing tasks and identifying potential hazards.

  • Shop Maintenance and Repair: Perform comprehensive maintenance and repair tasks on CAT equipment in the shop facility, including major overhauls and component rebuilds.

  • Component Testing and Calibration: Test and calibrate CAT equipment components such as engines, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.

  • Parts Management: Manage parts inventory to ensure availability for repairs.

  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough inspections and quality checks on repaired equipment.

  • Training and Development: Stay updated on CAT equipment advancements and participate in training sessions.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2 - 5 years of experience as a Field Service Technician or Shop Technician specializing in Caterpillar equipment, or equivalent experience with heavy equipment or mining equipment.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAT diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and mechanical systems.

  • Problem-solving Ability: Ability to diagnose and solve complex technical issues using CAT diagnostic tools and manuals.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED equivalent required.

  • Technical, vocational, trade school education or equivalent work experience required.

  • Relevant certifications in diesel mechanics, CAT equipment maintenance, or equivalent training highly desirable.

  • MSHA certification, or the ability to obtain it, preferred.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally, work in various environments, and perform tasks requiring sitting, standing, walking, reading, talking, writing, hearing, and operating in a fast-paced environment.
