Job Summary

Must be able to prepare estimates, with minimal supervision, for projects ranging from small to large in industrial environments. Will work directly with customers to obtain necessary information to successfully prepare estimates for review by Upper Management.

Typical Duties

  • Attend site walk through for RFQ's and assorted proposals to effectively determine execution strategies.
  • Work in conjunction with Field Operations to determine availability of resources and effectively translate constraints into the estimate being developed.
  • Interpret and cipher drawings to determine scope of work and properly determine most effective method of approach.
  • Work with customer to ensure a clear understanding of their needs.
  • Thoroughly prepare estimate to ensure all items are accounted for: Labor, Equipment, Materials, Take Offs, Taxes.
  • Identify suppliers that will be the most cost effective for execution of the project through evaluation of quality, safety, pricing and delivery.
  • Organize and lead Bid review with Upper Management.
  • Participate in handover/transition meeting to Project Management.
  • Maintain files of working documents and quotations for back-up to estimating figures.
  • Work with team members, as needed, to assist with other estimates being prepared.
  • Awarded contracts may include budget creation, estimating change orders, etc.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.

Required Qualifications

  • A four-year construction, engineering or related degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or experience, plus four years estimating, project control, or engineering experience related to company's core competency.
  • Career tenure; year 5-10.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of assigned discipline and estimating technique is essential.
  • Experience with piping, plate, structural and rotating equipment.
  • Ability to calculate quantities such as weight, length, area, volume, etc., using basic geometry and trigonometry is required.
  • Knowledge of company procedures and estimating standards, and specialized construction discipline required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Efficient utilization and mastery of Microsoft Office suite products such as Word, Outlook and Excel.

Physical Demands

  • Intervals of extended work hours.
  • Ability to stand, sit or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional climbing stairs / ladders, bending, stooping, reaching, and crouching.
  • Lifting and / or exerting of force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting / force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of lifting / force constantly to move objects.
  • Frequent driving of motor vehicles.

Working Environment

The majority of all proposals will be for Industrial Customers. This will result in exposure to heat, cold, noxious gases, live equipment, and assorted conditions related to chemical, manufacturing and power plants. All Personal Protective Equipment needed, to guarantee a safe work environment, will be supplied by Company.
