About the role

Basis Partners Construction Planner position is a blend of technical, administrative, and field experience requiring minimal supervision of tasks. The Construction Planner will have decision-making responsibilities, receive instruction on specific objectives, and provide solutions to unconventional and/or complex problems. This position serves in the role of planner for a defined segment of a large program under guidance of a lead construction quality planner.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining effective and efficient documentation throughout the project in a timely manner by:
    • Completing field assessments (using both online resources and existing field conditions), anticipated construction layouts, comprehensive quantity takeoffs, and approximate cost estimates based on established criteria.
    • Creating initial project documentation for review and incorporating stakeholder comments into final documentation for submittal.
    • Maintaining accurate project documentation by systematically uploading digital deliverables onto cloud servers and updating asset management databases.
    • Following standard operating procedures to maintain program quality control.
    • Applying analytical thinking and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
    • Attending required agency training.
    • Assessing infrastructure elements with standard inspection tools and specialized equipment.
    • Making measurements and documenting planned construction quantities using basic mathematics and geometry.
    • Providing justification for possible construction change orders.
    • Evaluating third-party information against field conditions and developing plans to correct deficiencies.
    • Communicating regularly with appropriate program personnel including internal teams, agency representatives, and contractors.
    • Following priorities from the planning lead and adjusting work tasks based on changing program needs.
    • Attending internal and external planning and field inspection meetings to support program needs.
    • Leading preconstruction meetings with contractors, field and lead inspectors, and agency administrators, inspectors, and specialty groups.
    • Attending final punch list walkthroughs with internal teams, agency representatives, and contractors to evaluate constructed infrastructure for general conformance to contract documents.
    • Answering project-related questions from citizens and field inspectors.
    • Supporting field inspection coverage and training future construction planners as needed.
    • Interacting with colleagues, clients, contractors, and the public in a professional manner.
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work environment by:
    • Wearing proper personal protection equipment (PPE).
    • Keeping equipment (including vehicle) clean and maintained.
    • Providing site leadership (mentoring, coaching, advising implementing) for safety program by continuously identifying, anticipating, and preventing safety, health, and hazard concerns by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions while on construction site.

Requirements

  • Maintaining good attendance.

  • Maintaining professional and technical knowledge by:
    • Attending relevant training and achieving advanced inspection certifications as required.
    • Demonstrating the application of skills learned.
    • Working with your direct supervisor/manager to determine developmental needs related to your personal development and Basis Partners goals and objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or a closely related field; or five (5) or more years of transportation construction inspection experience.
  • Ability to obtain required project or client specific certifications as needed.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or actively working toward obtaining EIT with the long-term goal of Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Basic drafting experience.
  • Current inspection-related certifications, such as:
    • CDOT Basics
    • Transportation Erosion Control Supervisor (TECS)
    • Work Zone Traffic Control
    • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety
    • Confined Space Entry
    • Erosion Control or other applicable inspection certifications

Skills

Pay

Compensation range: $33.00-$42.00 per hour. This position is considered non-exempt under FLSA. This is an estimated pay range. Final pay rate will be determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, job related skills, experience, qualifications, and market conditions.

Schedule

This is a hands-on inspection role that requires a combination of office and field work. Employees regularly travel to active sites to perform inspections/work. When not working in the field, employees are based in our Colorado Springs office to complete documentation and prepare for upcoming inspections. Regular travel to project sites is required. This position is not eligible for remote work.
