Construction Engineer

Reports to: Director of Construction • FLSA Status: Exempt

About the Role

Responsible for the management of construction contractors performing work during the execute phase of projects. Support construction activities in accordance with customer specifications and H&M requirements within schedule and budget limitations, coordinating activities of the engineering team, contractors, and vendors.

Schedule

Must have open availability any time and day of the week. Normal work period is Monday-Friday dayshift.

Responsibilities

• Directs development of an action plan and estimates requirements for resources management, labor, materials and time required to complete the project.
• Supports construction activities and interfaces between engineering and construction teams.
• Assesses vendors for competence, capabilities, resources, and financial status.
• Monitors progress of the project and compares actual costs with estimates.
• Works with design groups to modify plans as appropriate if problems arise.
• Coordinates the activities of the design and construction teams.
• Manages project issues, budgets, and schedules.
• Prepares monthly reports, detailing progress and costs for top management.
• Reviews and studies existing equipment, facilities, systems, and processes to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce costs.
• Develops PEP (Project Execution Plan), DBM (Design Basis Memorandum), JDB (Job Data Book), FEP (Field Erection Plan), SOW (Scope of Work), and Split Matrix.
• Works with client to resolve problems.
• Works within company policy as outlined in the H+M Employee Handbook as well as the H+M Safety Manual and OSHA Safety rules.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor as needed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management required.
• Minimum 3 years of field construction experience on downstream and/or mid-stream industrial projects.
• Excellent communications and organizational skills.
• Excellent analytical skills for reviewing costs and preparing budget reports.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and capable of establishing respect and credibility through actions, communications, understanding, and personal presence.
• Ability to work with others to achieve job goals.

Physical Requirements

• Occasionally lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Sit for long periods of time.
• Occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Use hands and arms to reach for, grasp, and manipulate objects.

Work Environment

Most work time is spent in an office or on the manufacturing facility grounds. These manufacturing facilities can be dusty, dirty, noisy, and occasionally hazardous. Work is often performed under pressure and stress, especially when facing completion deadlines.
