About the Role

This is an entry-level engineering position in the heavy highway/civil and site development fields of construction. The Construction Engineer will report to the Project Engineer on a jobsite.

Responsibilities

  • Produce labor and equipment cost reports to monitor production costs, drive billing, budgets, and costs to complete.
  • Produce daily, weekly, and monthly quantities to monitor production, drive management reports, and reconcile owner quantities using Excel and SAP.
  • Assist Field Engineer and Project Engineer in updating the project schedule in P6.
  • Initiate purchase orders, shop drawings, submittals, and material deliveries.
  • Prepare forecasted final cost reports; bi-monthly accumulation of costs and quantities for comparison of as-bid to as-built, reported in SAP format for corporate presentation.
  • Develop and track submittals.
  • Draft field sketches and interpret contract drawings for use in the field.
  • Gather and compile daily diaries to include photo logs.
  • Maintain Excel tracking logs for change orders, RFIs, and claims.
  • Produce meeting minutes during construction meetings.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly cost and revenue projections for materials, equipment, and labor in Excel.
  • Prepare and reconcile owner pay requisitions.
  • Prepare vendor and subcontractor pay requisitions.
  • Prepare and monitor CPM schedule for the project utilizing P6 Scheduling Software.
  • Manage quantities in the SAP cost control program.
  • Help ensure project construction conforms to design specifications and applicable North Carolina/South Carolina codes.
  • Evaluate preconstruction field conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (or equivalent work experience).
  • Basic engineering knowledge in civil engineering.
  • Proficient PC skills, including proficiency in Excel, P6 Scheduling, Bluebeam, Planswift, AGTEK, and SAP.
  • Familiarity with construction industry practices.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit and/or stand during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 25 pounds and carry up to 15 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks efficiently.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and noise.
  • Work can be performed at heights up to 60 feet, requiring climbing ladders, scaffolds, and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways.
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground and slopes in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on project needs and demands.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Periodically exposed to high levels of noise, grease, and dust typically associated with a construction project.
  • Regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
  • Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mixed concrete.
