Construction Director or Senior Director- Sports construction (Travel Required)

About the role

AECOM Hunt is seeking senior construction leaders for our Sports construction vertical to support current and future construction projects.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead field operations across major sports-related construction programs, including demolition, ground up, MEP, interior, back-end operations, parking or other related structures.

  • Provide oversight to General Superintendents, Superintendents, and field teams across multiple job sites.

  • Review, analyze, socialize and standardize sports-related field execution practices across projects and regions.

  • Ensure seamless coordination between field teams and local authorities and owners, investors.

  • Direct construction activities in operational/active settings scheduling segments with a minimal affect/disruption to ongoing operations.

  • Oversee phasing, logistics, and access planning in secure and constrained environments.

  • Ensure strict adherence to project schedules, including night work, shutdown windows, and phased turnover requirements.

  • Safety Champion a safety-first culture with emphasis on facility/construction safety protocols and zero-incident performance.

  • Cook with incident response and continuous safety improvement initiatives.

  • Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance

  • Enforce rigorous quality control standards.

  • Partner with Quality Control Representatives to ensure the highest level of quality.

  • Operational & Financial Performance

  • Partner with Project Executives and Operations leadership to ensure projects meet financial and performance targets.

  • Monitor productivity, cost control, and labor utilization across projects.

  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency in complex builds.

  • Talent Development & Workforce Strategy

  • Lead development of high-performing field teams with sports expertise.

  • Mentor General Superintendents and emerging field leaders.

  • Support recruitment and retention strategies for specialized construction talent.

Qualifications

  • Director level: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field plus 12 years of progressive construction experience including at least 5 years within the sports industry, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • At least 4 years of leadership experience OR Senior Director level: Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field plus EXTENSIVE years of progressive construction experience including at least 5 years within the sports industry, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

  • At least 6 years of leadership experience AND Proven experience delivering large-scale sports, entertainment, or iconic commercial projects.

  • Experience managing complex structural systems and high-profile builds.

  • Ability to pass security screenings and background checks.

  • Willingness to travel or relocated as determined by project location.

Physical Demands

  • Construction field positions require physical stamina and mobility, including the ability to climb ladders and stairs, use personnel hoists, and move through various terrain and active construction zones.

  • Vision requirements include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Team members must be capable of using their hands to handle tools and materials, and perform activities such as sitting, standing, walking, speaking, hearing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.

  • Lifting and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted may be necessary on an occasional basis.

Work Environment

  • Individuals in construction field roles work primarily on active job sites where exposure to environmental and job-related hazards is common, with or without accommodation.

  • These environments may include proximity to heavy machinery, elevated work areas, airborne particles, varying weather conditions, and potential electrical risks.

  • Noise levels may vary from moderate to high depending on the phase of construction.

  • Employees may be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) and must remain alert to ensure safety.
