Vacancy Details
The position is open to individuals with 2-5 years of residential construction experience, a working knowledge of common practices and hand/power tools, and the ability to read plans and follow construction specifications.
Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise volunteers on active construction sites, creating a welcoming, inclusive, and positive experience.
- Teach basic construction skills and safe work practices; match volunteer abilities with appropriate tasks.
- Encourage teamwork, quality workmanship, and a culture of safety and community engagement.
- Support Habitat homebuyers completing partnership equity hours and serve as an ambassador for Habitat's mission.
- Aid in daily construction activities including framing, siding, trim, insulation, painting, and flooring on new home and rehabilitation projects.
- Help maintain project schedules, quality standards, and organized, clean job sites.
- Assist with punch list completion, project closeout, and permitting support.
- Assist the Construction Manager with subcontractor coordination, material staging, and site logistics.
- Communicate project status, site needs, and scheduling concerns; monitor deliveries and report shortages.
- Help prepare sites for upcoming work phases and Volunteer Group Days.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order; assist with inventory and organization.
- Conduct routine safety inspections, enforce OSHA and Habitat safety standards, and ensure volunteers are properly trained on tool usage.
Qualifications
- 2-5 years of residential construction experience with working knowledge of common practices and hand/power tools.
- Ability to read plans and follow construction specifications.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to teach and mentor volunteers with varying skill levels.
- Ability to work independently, make sound field decisions, and lift 50 lbs in varying outdoor conditions.
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, ability to drive company truck and have reliable transportation.
Preferred Characteristics
- Experience supervising volunteers, crews, or apprentices;
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification and/or First Aid/CPR certification;
- Experience with snow removal, winter weather care, and working with diverse community groups.
Schedule & Compensation
This is a full-time position (approximately 40 hours/week), with local travel throughout Berkshire County. Compensation is competitive and based on experience.
