Construction Buyer
We are an end-to-end Renewable Energy provider, offering products to commercial and enterprise clients in EV Charging solutions, Fleet Electrification, Solar Micro-grids, Energy storage and Hydroponic systems. We handle the entire flow of providing these products and services—from Sales, Provisioning, Design and Engineering, to Contracting, Construction, Servicing, and Maintenance. As a licensed C-10 contractor, we operate construction crews across California and are expanding throughout the U.S.
About the role
This is a mid-to-senior level role for a Construction Buyer. You will procure all materials required for building projects, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to allocated budgets. Your role is critical in maintaining contract profitability by securing cost-effective and appropriate materials for each job.
Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and forecast procurement activities for multiple projects.
- Purchase general and specialized equipment, materials, and subcontractor services for construction projects.
- Review plans, specifications, and contracts to ensure correct equipment, materials, and subcontractor services are ordered.
- Invite tenders, consult with suppliers, review quotations, and issue RFQs.
- Determine or negotiate contract terms and conditions; award supplier contracts or recommend contract awards.
- Screen subcontractors for compliance, licenses, and legitimacy.
- Provide prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings while obtaining the best vendor quotes.
- Work with the project and construction team to ensure timely deliveries of materials and contractors.
- Contact suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations for secured and upcoming projects; agree on lead times and delivery periods.
- Maintain detailed records and an organized work schedule.
- Address challenges with suppliers and material flow effectively.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, sustainability, and environmental requirements for materials and services.
- Attend monthly internal project review meetings and contribute to project efficiency and budget adherence.
- Advise Construction Project Managers on predicted costs of individual items and notify them of potential cost increases.
- Liaise with the accounting team during the tendering stage to ensure accurate project costing.
- Prepare and maintain cost reports to maximize business efficiency.
- Negotiate and agree on favorable terms with suppliers once a contract is secured.
- Communicate effectively in written and verbal form, including inductions and work explanations.
- Collaborate professionally with all staff, from site workers to directors.
- Work with the project team and liaise with architects, engineers, surveyors, clients, planners, and specialist consultants.
- Attend monthly management meetings and report on project procurement.
- Request project information through the company’s RFI system.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of procurement experience in construction or a related industry.
- Undergraduate degree.
- Strong work ethic.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
