Construction Associate

About the role

Venable LLP’s New York Real Estate Group seeks a mid-to-senior-level Construction Associate with at least five years of experience advising clients on construction projects. The ideal candidate will have significant law firm experience representing owners and developers in all phases of the construction of commercial and residential real estate.

Responsibilities

• Drafting and negotiating design, engineering, consulting, and construction agreements
• Drafting and negotiating right of entry and access agreements
• Drafting and negotiating closeout agreements
• Resolving construction-related disputes outside of arbitration and litigation
• Advising clients on construction claims

Requirements

• Significant law firm experience representing owners and developers in all phases of the construction of commercial and residential real estate
• A strong working knowledge of construction case law and the New York Lien Law
• Transactional real estate experience – in the areas of development, acquisitions and dispositions, leasing, and/or financing (a plus)

Qualifications

• Exceptional oral and written communication skills, particularly strong drafting ability
• Outstanding academic credentials
• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
• Admitted to and in good standing with the bar of the State of New York

Skills

• Interest in participating in client education initiatives and business development presentations
• Contributing to firm citizenship activities

Benefits

• The anticipated base salary for this position is $215,000 - $355,000 per year
• The actual salary offered will be based on a number of job-related factors including, but not limited to, years of related experience, level of education, skills, credentials and certifications, responsibilities, and performance
