About the role

Under direction from the Construction Manager, the candidate will perform general labor duties in the field of telecom underground construction such as loading, digging, and placing underground cabling that varies in size, shape, and weight.

Responsibilities

  • Use underground utility construction tools including jackhammers/chipping guns, compactors, shovels, and other hand tools
  • If qualified, drive to and from job sites and perform general construction labor
  • Travel throughout the New England region with the Underground Crew while learning on the job
  • Prioritize personal safety and the safety of every crew member or individual on the job site
  • Make independent judgments and perform repetitive tasks
  • Maintain regular contact with co-workers and customers in a team environment
  • Complete other duties as assigned
  • Within 90 days of start date, take and pass OSHA-10 Certification (company-supplied training)
  • Pass and maintain a DOT Physical

Requirements

  • Active Class A CDL desired but not required
  • Hydraulics IC/2B Hoisting license a plus
  • Over 21 years of age with a valid driver’s license; must pass random driver’s license screenings
  • Travel is required; hotels are paid for, and employees receive a per diem
  • Overtime available every week
  • Previous underground utility or communications construction experience is a plus
  • Must show up for work daily and on time, and follow directions
  • Ability to handle the physical demands of construction duties
  • Knowledge of materials handling equipment and procedures
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade
  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance (e.g., tire pressure, checking oil and water levels)
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures

Work Environment

  • Repeated and frequent ability to lift 40 lbs from floor to above head continuously
  • Ability to sit, stand, climb, kneel, bend, lift, crawl, squat, reach, and utilize both hands and feet in aerial and underground capacities
  • Exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, dust, wet, vibration, and very loud noise
  • Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, requiring adherence to basic safety precautions
