About the role

Under direction from the Construction Manager, the candidate will perform general labor duties in the field of telecom underground construction such as loading, digging, and placing underground cabling that would vary in size, shape, and weight.

Responsibilities

  • Familiar with and understand the use of underground utility construction tools; use of jackhammers/chipping guns, compactors, shovels, and other hand tools
  • If qualified, drive to and from job sites throughout the area, as well as perform general construction labor at the job site
  • Travel required throughout the New England region with the Underground Crew, learning on the job
  • Conscientious regarding the safety of him/herself at times, as well as the safety of every other crew member or individual on the job site
  • Able to make independent judgments and perform repetitive tasks
  • Regular contact with co-workers and customers; work as part of a team environment
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Active Class A CDL desired but not required
  • Hydraulics IC/2B Hoisting license a plus
  • Over 21 years of age and possess, and continue to possess, a valid driver's license and pass random driver's license screenings
  • Due to the nature of the job, travel is a requirement; hotels are paid for, and employees will be supplied with a per diem
  • Overtime is available every week
  • Previous underground utility or communications construction experience is a plus
  • Show up for work daily and on time, and ability to follow directions
  • Handle the physical demands of construction duties
  • Able to make independent judgments and perform repetitive tasks
  • Regular contact with co-workers and customers
  • Within 90 days of start date, take and pass OSHA-10 Certification; company-supplied training
  • Must be able to take and pass, and continue to pass, a DOT Physical
  • Knowledge of materials handling equipment and procedures
  • Ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade
  • Knowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenance
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance, including tire pressure, checking oil and water levels
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures

  • Relevant education or training in construction or related fields
  • Experience in similar roles or industries
  • Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Passing DOT Physical
  • OSHA-10 Certification within 90 days of start date
