Construction Area Engineer (Eastern)

Main Job Tasks

Aids the Construction Engineer in managing Construction Administration, Construction Inspection, and Material Testing/Quality Control services on construction projects.

Ensures contract administration aligns with specifications, leading to consistent quality and timely project delivery.

Provides updates and communications regarding construction projects to the Construction Engineer.

Maintains oversight of construction progress, resolves issues, reviews construction plans and specifications for compliance, accuracy, and completeness.

Reviews consulting engineers' cost estimates and assists in addressing questions during the bidding process.

Attends pre-construction meetings, reviews and processes change orders, and conducts final inspections with the Construction Area Manager.

Monitors contractor performance, inspects construction sites, and prepares condition surveys of Ohio Turnpike infrastructure.

Collaborates with internal departments and performs other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge of civil engineering with a focus on highway construction, including roadway, drainage, bridge construction and rehabilitation, public relations, OSHA safety regulations, supervisory principles, and techniques.

Skills in using construction documentation, measuring tools, and computer equipment.

Ability to understand and apply civil engineering principles, techniques, procedures, criteria, plans, specifications, and related data.

Problem-solving, data interpretation, statistical analysis, and effective communication abilities.

Experience in supervising and managing highway engineering and construction projects, with a minimum of seven (7) years as a Licensed Professional Engineer.

Thorough knowledge of materials testing, including soil, asphalt, and concrete.

Strong written and oral communication skills, proficiency in computer software like Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word, and experience with AASHTOWare Project and Primavera.

Valid Ohio driver's license required.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field.

Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio with at least seven (7) years of experience managing highway engineering and construction projects.

Strong knowledge of highway engineering, design, and construction techniques and methods.

Comprehensive understanding of various material testing, including soil, asphalt, and concrete.
