Construction and Maintenance Leader (Non-Exempt)

About the role

Supervises and assists in the work of a small crew in the construction and maintenance of a wide variety of public works projects or jobs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a small work crew
• Assist construction and maintenance foreman in planning work to be done
• Maintain time cards
• Estimate materials, manpower, and equipment needs for various projects
• Assist work crews in street maintenance work including sealing cracks, patching holes, repairing paving cuts, and operating salt spreaders during icy weather
• Maintain equipment, and insure that proper tools are brought to each job
• Operate trucks, street sweepers, front end loaders, crackseal machines, or distributor
• Assist in the setting up of traffic control devices or barricades
• Assist in employee selection, evaluation, and disciplinary activities
• Perform related duties as directed

Qualifications

Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three years of experience in public works construction and maintenance; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

• Physical exam required
• Valid current Commercial Driver's License
• Pipeline Maintenance — Able to obtain Class C Water license and Wastewater II distribution license issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within 3 years of hire

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds
• Occasionally climb ladders, stairs, and other inclined surfaces
• Frequently walk and stand during the shift
• Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift
• Frequently push and pull objects
• Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees
• Rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
• Reach above, at, or below shoulder height
• Frequently coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle
