Position Summary
The Construction Accountant will play a key role in managing the financial performance of construction projects through accurate job costing, project accounting, Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, and revenue recognition. This position requires someone with direct construction accounting experience who can quickly contribute in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage job cost accounting for multiple construction projects.
- Prepare and maintain accurate Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.
- Maintain project budgets, costs, billings, and overall project profitability.
- Perform project accounting and financial analysis throughout the project lifecycle.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with accounting standards.
- Reconcile project costs and investigate budget variances.
- Partner with project managers and operations teams to provide financial reporting and project insights.
- Absorb month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports.
- Maintain accurate financial data within a construction ERP system.
- Develop and maintain reporting tools using Microsoft Excel.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Proven experience in construction accounting.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Job costing
- Project accounting
- Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
- Revenue recognition
- Project profitability reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with a construction ERP system.
- Experience with Vista ERP is a plus but not required.
