About the role
Serves as a liaison to federal agencies on behalf of the Senator and his constituents. Manages a caseload of immigration-related constituent inquiries and assists constituents with issues involving USCIS, the Department of State, CBP, ICE, and other relevant federal agencies.
Responsibilities
- Assist Texas constituents with immigration-related issues involving federal agencies and provide information regarding available resources and appropriate next steps
- Provide prompt, accurate, and professional responses to incoming immigration casework communications, both written and oral
- Obtain and maintain required privacy releases and supporting documentation in accordance with office procedures
- Initiate and monitor congressional inquiries with the appropriate federal agency
- Track case status and ensure timely, accurate, and thorough documentation in the office casework database
- Communicate extensively with constituents and federal agency congressional relations staff, both in writing and verbally
- Handle sensitive and confidential immigration matters with discretion, tact, and diplomacy
- Assist constituents with a variety of immigration matters, including petitions, applications, naturalization, visas, employment authorization, adjustment of status, and other immigration-related concerns
- Assist in answering incoming phone calls and responding to general constituent inquiries, as needed
- Coordinate with other congressional offices and appropriate federal agencies when necessary
- Attend job-related meetings, agency seminars, briefings, and training sessions as needed
Requirements
- Four-year college degree, or equivalent professional experience
- Two years of immigration casework experience required
- Must be compassionate and deeply committed to helping others
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage a high-volume caseload
- Strong critical thinking, research, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle difficult, sensitive, and emotionally charged situations with tact and diplomacy
- Ability to exercise discretion, independent judgment, and maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team
