About the role
Inspection, regulatory, administrative, and technical work in enforcing the provisions of conservation and wetlands protection laws and regulations. Provides technical assistance to the conservation commission, monitors conservation restrictions, and performs related work as required.
Responsibilities
- Enforce conservation and wetlands protection laws and regulations
- Provide technical assistance to the conservation commission
- Monitor conservation restrictions
- Maintain complex record systems
- Read site plans and conduct inspections
- Identify plant types
- Communicate with Town officials, employees, and the general public
- Perform administrative and bookkeeping tasks
Requirements
- High school diploma (college courses in land use management, environmental science, or related field preferred; college degree a plus)
- More than 3 years of experience in conservation activities, environmental planning, or a related field
- Demonstrated experience in secretarial, bookkeeping, or administrative work
- Class D driver’s license required
- Notary Public certification helpful
- MACC Fundamental Certificate preferred
Skills
- Knowledge of Massachusetts conservation laws, Wetlands Protection Act and Regulations, and Town Wetland Protection Ordinance and Regulations
- Working knowledge of office procedures and town government
- Ability to operate various types of office equipment
- Strong communication skills
- Proficiency in computers, including word processing and Microsoft Excel
- Familiarity with Laserfiche and OpenGov programs a bonus
