About the role

CONNECT Teachers are part-time educators in the CONNECT Program, an after-school initiative supported by the West Point Association of Graduates (WPAOG) in collaboration with Highland Falls Intermediate School. The program aims to enhance the quality of life for prospective USMA Staff and Faculty and the broader community by providing extracurricular enrichment courses to students in grades 2-8. Teachers will deliver hands-on, project-based lessons in science, technology, robotics, engineering, arts, math (STREAM), and the humanities, helping students develop critical skills in learning, creativity, and leadership.

Instruction segments vary based on the teacher's skills and experience and may include social studies, English, sciences, tutoring, activities, fitness, health, culture, or music. Teachers work under the supervision of the Director of the CONNECT Program and must reside within commuting distance of West Point.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director and Assistant Director of CONNECT to implement hands-on, multi-sensory, project-based lessons and activities aligned with the thematic curriculum.
  • Submit lesson plans to the Assistant Director for approval according to the submission schedule.
  • Plan lessons and provide supervision during all activities for approximately 20 students per class.
  • Participate in curriculum and other professional development trainings as required.
  • Use creative and innovative teaching strategies to enhance literacy skills, social-emotional learning, and STREAM education.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop and plan culminative event activities showcasing student learning and creativity.
  • Engage and communicate with parents and families as directed by the Director.
  • Monitor authorized parent/guardian pick-up of students.
  • Participate in community outreach and meetings as required.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to work across all after-school programs to provide coverage when needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience in education with the ability to supervise Instructors.
  • BA/BS diploma desired; credit hours in Education, Psychology, Social Work, counseling, Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience in the education field is desired; a teaching degree is a plus.
  • Must enjoy working with children.
  • Background in STREAM, visual/performing arts, or sports coaching is a plus.
  • Native or fluent Spanish language skills are a plus.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work is required.
  • Must live within commuting distance of West Point.

Pay

This position pays approximately $25–$35 per hour, based on skills and experience.

Schedule

Part-time role with a maximum of 4 hours per day, 5 days per week during the academic year. Some nights and weekends may be required.
