About the Role

Based in any U.S. office, the Conflicts Attorney will assist with all aspects of conflicts clearance for new clients, new matters, and lateral candidates. This role reports to the Director, Conflicts Attorneys & Assistant General Counsel and works closely with the Firm’s Office of General Counsel, Chief Legal Operations Officer, Director of Conflicts & Information Governance, and partners throughout the Firm.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze conflict of interest reports for all new firm representations and lateral attorney hires to identify potential conflict problems, ensuring compliance with the firm’s conflict and risk management policies.
  • Resolve conflict of interest issues, including obtaining necessary waivers and drafting ethics wall memos for new clients, new matters, and lateral attorneys.
  • Analyze information provided with new matter requests for compliance with firm policies and applicable rules of professional responsibility; review and edit draft engagement letters for compliance.
  • Proactively communicate with partners and management regarding complex conflicts issues.
  • Review client outside counsel guidelines and assist with assessing the firm’s ability to comply.
  • Supervise Resolution Analysts’ clearance efforts and processes.
  • Conduct orientation for staff and attorneys on the new matter approval process.
  • Consult with partners, the professional responsibility committee, and information governance to create and maintain effective screening restrictions.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records of all conflicts resolutions and related communications.
  • Develop expertise on conflicts rules and approaches in specific practice areas; formulate templates and frameworks for conflicts analysis.
  • Perform corporate research as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • JD and active bar license required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an attorney in a conflicts department.
  • Knowledge of conflict-of-interest principles under professional responsibility rules in various jurisdictions and experience analyzing conflicts of interest.
  • Basic knowledge of legal software such as Intapp, D&B/Hoovers, CapIQ, or BvD.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills with a focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and consistency.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, with attorneys and staff.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines.
  • Strong technological skills; knowledge of conflicts clearance and ethical screening software preferred.
  • Aptitude for learning new systems and participating in discussions about system design based on departmental and firm needs.
  • Ability to work under pressure, adapt to competing demands, and prioritize tasks effectively.

Pay

The annual compensation range for this position is $220,000 - $240,000. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
