Responsibilities
- Conduct corporate and other due diligence research on prospective and existing clients and related parties, including identifying and analyzing ownership and control structures.
- Perform conflicts searches and process new business intake requests using the Firm’s conflicts database and intake platforms.
- Review conflicts search results to identify potential issues, independently assessing routine matters and escalating complex, novel, or high-risk issues to senior team members as appropriate, and facilitate the opening of new matters.
- Liaise with lawyers and other stakeholders to communicate conflicts search results, explain identified issues, and obtain information necessary to support conflicts clearance.
- Aid in the preparation of draft conflict waivers, consent letters, and engagement letters using Firm templates, under supervision.
- Clearly and concisely articulate legal relationships, the nature of proposed and existing engagements, and the status of pending conflicts matters, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of conflicts and matter databases, including updating, modifying, and closing matters as required.
- Develop a working knowledge of applicable conflicts rules, professional responsibility concepts, and Firm policies through training and on-the-job experience.
- Exercise sound judgment and strong analytical skills when evaluating research findings and conflicts search results, and determine when appropriate escalation is needed.
- Assist with administrative functions and special projects within the Conflicts team and Professional Responsibility department, including process improvements and systems-related initiatives.
- Provide after-hours conflicts and new business intake support on a rotating, as-needed basis in accordance with department coverage schedules.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least two (2) years of experience in a law firm conflicts, new business intake or professional responsibility department.
- Proficiency in corporate and legal research using a variety of corporate and legal databases and research resources.
- Strong analytical skills and sound business judgment, with the ability to evaluate legal and factual relationships.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly and concisely explain legal relationships, conflicts issues, and recommend next steps.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Demonstrated interest in developing subject matter expertise in conflicts and professional responsibility rules, and Firm policies.
- Aptitude for learning and working with new systems, including the ability to contribute to discussions regarding enhancements to conflicts and intake technology.
- Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently while exercising initiative and sound business judgment, as well as collaborate with lawyers and business professionals at all levels of a global law firm, with tact and diplomacy.
Pay
$75,000 - $90,000 (non-exempt).
