About the Role

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA's Business, National Airspace, and Technical Computing Services (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep the nation's skies safe and connected. This role involves leading configuration management across a large-scale federal program, ensuring order and traceability across custom-developed, COTS, GOTS, and third-party vendor components. The position is critical to maintaining configuration integrity from design through deployment and sustainment in an integration environment. This role is based in Herndon, VA.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the Configuration Management Plan (CMP), defining CM policies, processes, roles, and tools across the integrated program, including internal teams, subcontractors, and vendor deliverables.
• Establish and enforce CM standards and procedures for configuration identification, change control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audits in accordance with EIA-649, MIL-STD-973, and agency-specific CM requirements.
• Define the configuration item (CI) hierarchy across the integrated system, identifying hardware, software, firmware, documentation, and interface CIs at appropriate levels of control.
• Maintain the program baseline structure (functional, allocated, and product baselines) and ensure traceability from requirements through design, implementation, test, and deployment.
• Administer the Configuration Control Board (CCB) process, preparing change requests, coordinating cross-functional impact analyses, and documenting board decisions.
• Lead cross-system impact analysis for proposed changes, evaluating ripple effects across multi-vendor integrated components, interfaces, data exchanges, and dependent systems.
• Manage engineering change proposals (ECPs), waivers, deviations, and specification change notices across the integrated program.
• Ensure all changes to baselined configurations are formally evaluated, approved, implemented, verified, and recorded before release.
• Maintain configuration status accounting (CSA) records for a complete, current, and auditable history of all configuration items, baselines, changes, and release states.
• Plan and conduct functional configuration audits (FCAs) and physical configuration audits (PCAs) to verify delivered systems match approved configuration documentation.
• Conduct CM audits of subcontractor and vendor deliverables to ensure compliance with program CM standards, contractual data requirements, and interface specifications.
• Generate CM metrics and reports (change activity, baseline health, audit findings, open action items) for program leadership and government stakeholders.
• Define and manage integration baseline management processes controlling how multi-vendor components are assembled, versioned, and promoted through integration, test, and production environments.
• Coordinate release management activities across development teams, integration labs, and operational environments, ensuring release packages are complete, verified, and traceable to approved baselines.
• Manage interface configuration control, ensuring interface control documents (ICDs), data exchange specifications, and API contracts are baselined, versioned, and change-controlled.
• Collaborate with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipeline teams to integrate CM controls (branching strategies, artifact versioning, build traceability, deployment gating) into automated workflows.
• Administer and optimize CM tooling (Git, Bitbucket, GitLab, Nexus, Artifactory, Jira, ServiceNow, IBM DOORS) and ensure tool interoperability across the integrated program.
• Drive CM process improvement initiatives, identifying inefficiencies, automation opportunities, and best practices to enhance configuration integrity and reduce cycle time.
• Translate CM requirements, audit findings, and baseline status into clear, actionable guidance for program leadership, government stakeholders, and engineering teams.
• Mentor and guide systems engineers, software developers, and subcontractor CM staff in CM principles, processes, and tool usage.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust Clearance.
• 15+ years of experience in configuration management, systems engineering, or software engineering within large-scale programs.
• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Management, or a related field (or 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of degree).
• Demonstrated experience serving as a CM lead within a systems integrator environment, managing configuration across multi-vendor, multi-technology integrated solutions.
• Deep expertise in configuration management principles and standards (EIA-649, MIL-STD-973, CMMI-CM, or equivalent) applied to hardware, software, and system-level configurations.
• Proven experience administering Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and leading cross-system change impact analysis in integrated environments.
• Strong command of CM tooling ecosystems (Git-based version control, artifact repositories, change management platforms, and requirements management tools like DOORS, Jira, ServiceNow).
• Hands-on experience integrating CM controls into DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines, including branching strategies, build traceability, artifact versioning, and deployment gating.
• Solid understanding of systems engineering lifecycle processes and how CM supports each phase (requirements management, design, integration, verification, validation, and sustainment).
• Experience conducting functional and physical configuration audits (FCA/PCA) across complex, multi-vendor systems.
• Working knowledge of federal frameworks (NIST, FedRAMP, RMF) as they relate to configuration management, change control, and security baseline maintenance.
• Experience supporting federal or DoD programs with complex integration and multi-contractor coordination challenges.
• Background in mission-critical or safety-critical systems where configuration integrity directly impacts operational reliability and safety.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional coordination across systems engineering, software development, test, cybersecurity, and operations teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with configuration management for aviation, air traffic management, or national airspace systems, including familiarity with aviation-specific CM and safety assurance requirements.
• Background in managing configurations for real-time systems, embedded software, and hardware/software co-managed environments.
• Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) configuration management, including versioning and baselining SysML/UAF models within MBSE tools (Cameo, Sparx EA).
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure configuration management (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible), container image versioning, and cloud environment baseline control.
• Experience with data configuration management (schema versioning, data migration scripts, and reference data baseline control).
• Knowledge of network architecture (SD-WAN, secure transport) configuration control within integrated environments.
• Experience with AIOps and observability platforms for configuration drift detection and automated compliance monitoring.
• Relevant certifications such as CMPIC CM Certification, ITIL 4 Managing Professional, or INCOSE CSEP/ESEP.
• ITIL certification and experience aligning CM processes with ITSM, incident management, and release management workflows.

Pay

Target salary range: $112,000 - $179,000. Salary is determined by scope and responsibilities, individual experience, education, knowledge, skills, competencies, geographic location, and business/contract considerations. Eligible employees may receive overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
