Conductor
About the role
Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Conductor in Austin, TX to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with applicable safety and operating rules and regulations.
- Perform all duties required in connection with the operation of commuter trains.
- Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe work environment.
- Customer service, fare inspection, switching, and flagging.
- Notify proper authorities and prepare reports for accidents, unscheduled stops, or delays.
- Diagnose minor malfunctions and perform minor maintenance and servicing activities.
- Comply with train orders, signals, radio communications, and railroad rules and regulations.
- Engage in Herzog’s Culture and essential behaviors.
- Work non-traditional hours and adhere to regular and predictable attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Eye/hand coordination.
- Basic mathematics understanding.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Knowledge of rules, regulations, and policies for position.
- Logical choice and decision-making ability.
- Pass pre-employment background check, physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen.
- Complete and maintain required safety certification annually.
Physical Requirements
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to one-half mile.
- Maintain balance for an extended period while train is in motion.
- Awareness of surroundings and following verbal commands in noisy environments.
- Confined access/space environment with a width of 16 inches.
- Adaptability to various temperature extremes.
- Sit and stand for an extended period.
- Repetitive movements, squatting/bending, overhead reaching.
- Lift up to shoulder height and horizontally transfer up to 35 pounds for a distance up to 10 feet.
- Color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Hear and distinguish auditory signals.
- Work in a safety-sensitive work environment.
