About the role
A third-generation, family-owned commercial construction company with over 70 years of excellence and a strong commitment to community is seeking an adaptable, driven Concrete Finisher.
Responsibilities
- Adheres to and supports all MK safety policies and practices
- Performs a wide variety of duties and tasks involving preparing worksites, building forms and accurately and properly installing finished concrete according to specifications
- Operates various power tools and equipment
- Prepares and maintains clean and safe work sites
- Handles various materials
- Assists other trade and craft team members and supervisory personnel
- Communicates and collaborates with other team members, owners, suppliers or subcontractors
- Supports and adheres to all company operating and regulatory compliance-focused policies and practices
Essential Duties
- Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of the company’s commitment to a safe working environment
- Supports communications and relationship building activities with owners, suppliers, General Contractors, subcontractors, etc.
- Proactively, professionally and with a team-focused attitude collaborates and communicates with construction site teams, management and supervisory personnel and team members throughout the company to integrate activities and achieve goals
- Complies with established company operating policies and procedures in order to maintain adequate controls and to support the adherence to outside regulatory requirements
- Absolves with the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of sexual harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the work place
- Responds to inquiries or requests relating to his/her particular area within given time frames and within established policy
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- In depth understanding of M-K safety policies and practices supporting a committed safety culture and safe working environment
- Basic reading, writing, and grammar skills
- Basic mathematical skills and analytical skills sufficient to meet required finishing duties
- Proficient skills with tools, methods, materials and equipment used in placing, smoothing, finishing and curing concrete in commercial construction
- Fundamental abilities to build forms for concrete construction
- Basic skills associated with understanding elevations for placing concrete
- Collaborative and generative attitudes and abilities toward working as part of a team
- Visual and auditory skills
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to different projects daily with finishing crew, as required by finishing schedules
Education/Experience
- A High School Diploma or GED
- General training and education focused on the use of concrete mixing, placing and finishing equipment and processes
- Completion of apprenticeship program and/or journeyman experience
- Completion of M-K Academy training program for Concrete Finisher
- A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in comparable positions
Physical Demand and Work Environment
- The Concrete Finisher position is physical in nature and requires standing, walking, sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reaching with hands and arms; climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Job requires ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction project, the ability to climb ladders for heights of up to 60 feet, and crawl for distances of 50 feet
- Job requires ability to work with tools, lumber and materials and the ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 80 lbs. for 50 feet
