About the role
Hatchery maintenance mechanics are responsible for keeping all hatchery equipment running and performing preventative maintenance on all equipment.
Responsibilities
- Keep separator trays, washers, macerators, vacuum systems, hatches, setters, A/C units, heaters, chick counters, evaporative coolers, Intelliject machines, unstop drains, and replace light fixtures operational.
- Replace wheels on farm racks and hatcher dollies.
- Fix anything that needs repair.
Requirements
- Must be dependable.
- Must be able to bend, squat, and lift approximately 50 lbs.
- The job requires some overhead lifting of about 20 lbs when working in setters.
- Must be able to work in temperatures up to 100 degrees in setters; however, there are overhead fans in the setters circulating the air.
- Must be able to climb a ladder at times carrying about 15 lbs (weight of a 1/15 HP motor with blower wheel attached).
- Must have electrical knowledge and be able to work with electricity such as wiring, motors, light fixtures, running conduit, replacing motors, and working around electronic control boards.
- Must be able to climb stairs onto the roof once every month to clean filters and wash out A/C units and make repairs as needed.
- Must be able to climb a ladder.
