Computer Repair Technician

About the role

Installs, maintains, and repairs computer equipment, peripherals and associated wiring located within the district. Performs preventive maintenance on these items. Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are required and are essential functions of this position.

Responsibilities

• Installs, maintains, repairs and replaces computers, peripherals and related equipment.
• Disassembles and removes equipment as needed.
• Performs all manufacturers upgrades, recalls and modifications as required.
• Performs preventive maintenance as directed.
• Keeps appropriate project records focusing on job control, hours and materials used, etc.
• Must account for and care for district vehicles and assigned tools.
• Maintains clean and safe work area.
• Participates in education requirements of apprentices in techniques, equipment, safety, policies, and procedures, as necessary.
• Experience with copiers.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must have completed two years of full-time formal education or have 4 years job-related experience.
• Must possess or obtain CompTIA A+ Certification within one year of employment.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Knowledge and Skills

• Good general knowledge and practical theory of electrical, electronic, and mechanical theory.
• Good general knowledge of a variety of electronics-related test equipment and specialized tools.
• Ability to work with a variety of equipment (Chromebooks, Windows PCs, Macintosh, iPads, iPods, etc.).
• Ability to work with a variety of peripherals (CD-ROMs, RAM, plotters, external disk drives, mice, printers, SMART Boards, UPSs, etc.).
• Ability to work with video monitoring devices, printing devices, related cabling, networking, modems, servers, switches, etc., and software such as Windows Desktop OS, Chrome OS, and macOS, as well as software applications normally used in Granite School District.
• Experience with copiers.
• Good working knowledge of relevant building and safety codes including pertinent aspects of OSHA, EPA, MSDS, and ADA.
• Ability to read and understand blueprints, schematics, appropriate manuals, and electrical symbols sufficient to complete assigned tasks.
• Ability to quickly discern between software and hardware-related problems and symptoms.
• Basic mathematics, oral, and written communication skills.
• Well versed in District policies, negotiated agreements, and District inventory procedures.
• Ability to plan work and organize apprentices and temporary workers, materials, and equipment for specific projects.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with privileged information.

• Makes safety decisions in terms of practices and procedures.
• May consult with administrators, teachers, co-workers, and patrons to assist in the timely completion of projects.
• Assists in planning work projects.
• Assures that each assignment has sufficient tools, materials, and supplies.
• Determines repairs and replacements of equipment as needed.
• Prioritizes work for specific jobs assigned.
• Must be able to perform assigned tasks without on-site supervision.

Interactions With Others

Interacts positively with students, teachers, principals, and other district personnel.

Working Environment

Requires work at school locations or at their work bench at the Information Systems Support Center. May be subject to awkward positions, heat, noise, dirt, and low voltage devices. May have occasional stress from emergencies and project deadlines. Interruptions may occur while performing work requiring accuracy and concentration.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and/or hear. Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch. Occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Must be able to stand/sit for long periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
