Computer Lab Department Head
General Summary: Under general supervision, the Computer Lab Department Head provides leadership, management, training, and professional and supervisory support in the planning, coordination, and operation of a Computer Lab Department at a branch library. Responsibilities include assisting and training computer lab users and staff, fostering positive community relationships, and overseeing branch projects, programs, and committees. Acts as Person-In-Charge (PIC) on a routine basis and as needed.
Responsibilities
- Motivates and supervises assigned staff, including performance coaching, career counseling, development, and conflict resolution.
- Organizes services, programs, and employees to achieve established goals.
- Coordinates with Branch Manager and other branch-level departments to meet branch and District goals.
- Develops, maintains, and monitors key reporting metrics to achieve and control desired quality outcomes.
- Accurately prepares and maintains files, records, and reports, handling confidential information with discretion.
- Sets short-term (daily to annual) operational goals for the assigned service or department.
- Handles customer service issues.
- Monitors department compliance with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, best practices, and District policies.
- Adapts to current and emerging trends in library administration/science and public administration, making recommendations for future strategies and planning.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree (required). Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (preferred).
- Two (2) years’ experience training and/or instructing users on personal computers and software operations, with at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory role or completion of Library District’s Apprentice Person-In-Charge (APIC) training.
- Prior completion of Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s Person-in-Charge (PIC) Training or completion within six (6) months of assuming the position.
- District-provided AED/CPR certification must be completed within six (6) months of assuming the position and maintained while in the role.
Skills
- Knowledge of effective supervisory principles and methods.
- Knowledge of report and record-keeping principles and procedures.
- Ability to perform basic accounting.
- Ability to handle stressful situations with professional composure.
Physical Requirements
Although work is performed in a library setting, tasks may involve frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, stooping, and some lifting and carrying of objects of moderate weight (20-50 pounds).
Schedule
- Monday: 9:15 AM – 6:15 PM
- Tuesday: 9:15 AM – 6:15 PM
- Wednesday: 11:15 AM – 8:15 PM
- Thursday: 9:15 AM – 6:15 PM
- Friday: Anticipated schedule may vary based on the needs of the Library District.
- Saturday & Sunday: 9:15 AM – 6:15 PM
Pay
$80,384 – $107,722 per year. Pay typically begins at the minimum of the pay range, with eligibility for annual merit and COLA increases per District policy.
