Computed Tomography Technologist - Galveston CT Scan (PRN, up to 19 hrs/wk)

About the role

This position works independently to complete a variety of routine diagnostic CT procedures to include common and special CT exams of moderate complexity. This position provides direct assistance to physicians with all diagnostic and special CT procedures.

Responsibilities

• Promotes a positive work environment and collaborates with all members of the patient care team.
• Performs CT, CTA, CTP and interventional biopsy procedures to include common and specialized exams of moderate complexity.
• Optimizes protocols to provide better patient care, image quality and patient experience.
• Assists physicians during diagnostic or special procedures, including assisting with sterile technique.
• Practices radiation safety and ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable) and follows safety standards and conducts all imaging procedures accordingly.
• Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures and complies with job role, department and hospital safety standards, practices and policies.
• Participates in WASTE walks and supports department LEAN projects and reports near misses and inputs errors promptly into appropriate hospital patient safety reporting system.
• Performs imaging equipment quality control (QC) ensuring all imaging equipment is in safe working order prior to use.
• Provides accurate and complete documentation of patient procedures and enters charges at the time service is delivered.

Requirements

• Associates of Applied Science or Graduate of an accredited radiography program.
• Graduate of an accredited computed tomography program (to include UTMB cross-training program).
• American Registry for Radiology Technologist (ARRT-R) and American Registry for Diagnostic Computed Tomography (ARRT-CT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board NMTCB (CT) or must be eligible for ARRT-CT or NMTCB-CT certification and obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Texas Medical Board certification (MRT) and American Heart Association (BLS).

• Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
• Basic computer knowledge and operates multiple computer systems to include, Hospital / Radiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents.
• Exhibits strong interpersonal and team player skills with all levels of the healthcare team and assures delivery of excellent customer service to all patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers.

Work Schedule

This position is for up to 19.99 hours/week with no benefits. It is a variable schedule, with the expectation of taking shifts as needed. Shifts will include days, evenings, weekends, and occasional nights. This position will mostly cover Galveston, but may cover other campuses on occasion.
