Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist - Columbia, S.C.

Performs a variety of procedures applying ionizing radiation. Performs CT scans as directed. Communicates with the physician and other work-related personnel appropriately.

Responsibilities

• Identify patients and procedures.
• Communicate with nursing or physician concerning patient; inform nursing of patients that need IV sedation or biopsies.
• Fill out questionnaires on all patients between the ages of 12–55.
• Position patients accurately for all CT procedures; transfer and position correctly for anatomy to be demonstrated.
• Know scanning protocols in depth; use protocol book for reference.
• Perform procedures correctly and in a timely manner; take studies to the radiologist for interpretation as soon as possible after exam completion.
• Write time procedure is finished and filmed on patient board; archive films and take to radiologist for reading.
• Obtain appropriate supplies and prepare room for patient; keep room cleaned and stocked at all times; clean tables and trays after each patient.
• Use proper technique when injecting IV contrast; ensure IV is working and checked first with an injection of saline; choose correct method of injection (hand or injector).
• Be proficient in filming from imaging workstation, including 3D imaging and multiplanar reconstruction.
• Respond to codes and other emergency situations appropriately.
• Explain CT procedure to patient and/or family member; obtain completed questionnaire and proper history and clinical from patient, floor or physician’s office.
• Inform patients and families of all delays.
• Train co-workers and students; assist other technologists when not busy in assigned CT room.
• Acquire requisition and check for appropriate clinical; charge procedure, supplies and surgical codes when exam is completed.
• Indicate name and fluoro time on film badge; add surgical charges when needed.
• Operate the PACS system appropriately and verify studies before sending to archive.
• Report equipment problems to supervisor, in-charge tech and document confirmation numbers; complete appropriate forms for all procedures.
• Fill out contrast sheet on all patients receiving IV and rectal contrast; complete a contrast media form and CT forms on all patients.
• Communicate with radiologist to determine appropriate protocols for each exam; utilize correct protocols as prescribed; perform procedures as directed by the radiologist.
• Demonstrate recognition of anatomy and pathology as related to scan being processed.
• Perform warm-up calibrations as needed.
• Maintain competency needed for working in the CT department.
• Perform point of care testing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

• Education – Certification Program: Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology program
• Experience – No experience required. In lieu of, team members employed in this job on 11/08/2020 are grandfathered from the minimum requirements noted above.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses: ARRT Registered and registered in CT; CPR; SCRQSA License
