About the role
The Computational Pathology Scientist supports hospital-based pathology faculty across two health systems in implementing and executing artificial intelligence-driven research projects focused on digital pathology and clinically relevant problem-solving.
Responsibilities
- Apply advanced computational approaches including deep learning, foundation models, and large language models to address complex diagnostic and workflow challenges.
- Collaborate with an advisory team to evaluate and prioritize proposed projects based on scientific impact, feasibility, and available resources.
- Operate within a pilot-stage computational pathology initiative, utilizing a mix of locally managed high-performance systems, academic clusters, and cloud-based platforms.
- Conduct projects involving protected health information (PHI) exclusively within secure, locally hosted high-performance computing environments to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
Requirements
- Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related computational field
- 2+ years related experience
- 1-2 years demonstrated experience in AI-based image analysis
- Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or deep learning methods
- Strong programming experience in Python
- Experience with high-performance computing environments (local workstations, academic clusters, and/or cloud platforms)
- PhD preferred
- Experience in computational pathology, medical imaging, or healthcare AI
- Familiarity with foundation models and modern AI architectures
- Experience deploying models in secure, privacy-compliant environments (e.g., HIPAA-regulated systems)
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Required: Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related computational field
- Required: 2+ years related experience
- Required: 1-2 years demonstrated experience in AI-based image analysis
- Required: Experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or deep learning methods
- Required: Strong programming experience in Python
- Required: Experience with high-performance computing environments (local workstations, academic clusters, and/or cloud platforms)
- Preferred: PhD
- Preferred: Experience in computational pathology, medical imaging, or healthcare AI
- Preferred: Familiarity with foundation models and modern AI architectures
- Preferred: Experience deploying models in secure, privacy-compliant environments (e.g., HIPAA-regulated systems)

Pay
This is a fixed-term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire, which may be extended based upon available funding.
Schedule
Full-time, 37.5 hours per week.
