Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled Computational Pathology Scientist to join a well-known client’s team in South San Francisco, CA. This role focuses on advancing preclinical pathology assessments through innovative digital pathology and computational image analysis.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement image analysis pipelines for digital histopathology using both classical and advanced (ML/DL) techniques.
- Perform quantitative analysis of whole-slide images (WSI) and digital pathology datasets.
- Apply computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning methods for tasks such as segmentation, classification, and feature extraction.
- Collaborate closely with pathologists and biologists to design and execute image analysis workflows aligned to scientific questions.
- Contribute to the development and deployment of AI-driven image analysis algorithms.
- Utilize commercial platforms such as HALO, Visiopharm, or QuPath when appropriate.
- Perform statistical analysis and data visualization to support the interpretation of results.
- Maintain well-documented, reproducible workflows and adhere to best practices (e.g., version control, pipeline documentation).
- Participate in cross-functional collaborations and knowledge sharing across teams.
Experience
- 5+ years of relevant experience in computational biology, data science, bioinformatics, or related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in Python programming and scientific computing libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, OpenCV).
- Strong experience in computer vision and image analysis, including both classical and machine learning approaches.
- Hands-on experience with whole-slide image (WSI) processing using tools such as OpenSlide or similar.
- Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development environments.
Preferred
- Expertise in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras; Detectron2 a plus).
- Experience in digital pathology platforms (HALO, Visiopharm, QuPath).
- Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and job schedulers (e.g., SLURM).
- Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster).
- Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS).
- Experience building lightweight GUI tools for research workflows.
- Background in tumor pathology, histopathology, or immunology.
Education
- Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline required.
