Compressor Mechanic II

About the role

The Mechanic II is responsible for setting, maintaining, repairing, and operating compressors in the field. This role requires developed skills to address non-routine issues and solve problems without close supervision, with the ability to mentor lower-level Mechanics.

Responsibilities

• Read gas meters and instrumentation; record amounts of gas received, delivered, and consumed; report operational, temperature, and pressure changes in operating logs
• Monitor gauges, dials, and other indicators to verify proper equipment operation
• Adjust and tune equipment to achieve specified performance
• Operate power-driven pumps that transfer liquids, semi-liquids, gases, or powdered materials; add materials to equipment and dispose of them properly
• Complete and submit all required paperwork and service reports
• Troubleshoot problems through diagnostic testing (utilizing computer software as applicable), repairing and adjusting equipment, conferring with co-workers and supervisors, and applying techniques learned in the classroom and field
• Determine the most cost-effective, timely, and efficient methods for repairs
• Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and operation of equipment using hand tools and power tools safely
• Set units and perform start-up procedures on location
• Safely assist in disassembly and removal of units from location
• Use hand tools to clean, lubricate, adjust equipment, and replace filters, gaskets, and other items while identifying maintenance needs
• Overhaul engines, compressors, and related components as needed
• Ensure field equipment operates under current emissions guidelines and standards
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• 3+ years of experience in the gas compression industry
• Ability to read and write English
• Clean driving record with minimum class C license

Skills

• Basic knowledge of pneumatic and electric starters, fuel systems, cooling systems, lubrication systems, ignition systems, electrical systems, and compression-related anatomy
• Basic knowledge of production equipment such as separators and dehydrators

• Effective communication with all levels of co-workers by telephone, written form, e-mail, or in person
• Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office applications; ability to learn company-specific applications
