About the Role

Medisca is a global company leveraging strong partnerships to serve healthcare professionals across diverse wellness disciplines. The Compounding Specialist will be a resource to internal and external clients for all compounding-related needs, providing support on technical and formulation inquiries, niche areas of practice, current standards, and more. This role assists pharmacists in introducing or expanding compounding in their business.

Responsibilities

  • Review non-sterile and sterile formulations per client requests, evaluating safety, therapeutic efficacy, route of administration, active ingredient concentration, dosage, and clinical relevance.
  • Verify formulas are based on scientific evidence through primary literature searches.
  • Assess physiochemical compatibility, stability of APIs and excipients, mathematical calculations, preparatory steps, ingredient sensitivities, auxiliary labels, and legal parameters.
  • Respond to client compounding inquiries via email or telephone, providing technical expertise on troubleshooting, calculations, base selection, ingredient compatibility, formulation chemistry, and API-specific monographs.
  • Consult on recommended and proprietary technologies, devices, equipment, and ready bases for pharmacy compounding.
  • Provide support in niche areas such as peptides, hormone restoration therapy, veterinary compounding, pain management, and dermatology.
  • Address regulatory inquiries, facility workflow, and current standards of practice.
  • Handle escalated client inquiries, problems, or situations.
  • Perform scientific literature searches and compile findings into standardized templates for client distribution.
  • Stay updated on standards of practice and regulations governing pharmaceutical compounding at state/provincial and federal levels.
  • Assist in developing SOPs, policies, and procedures for formulation development, approval, and compounding practice.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement of the formulation database.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Requirements

  • Educational background: BS Pharmacy, PharmD, or Pharmacy Technician certification.
  • For Pharmacists: 3–5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical compounding industry (1+ year in a compounding pharmacy lab preferred).
  • For Pharmacy Technicians: At least 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical compounding industry (compounding pharmacy lab experience preferred).
  • Experience with peptide formulation and education (sterile and non-sterile).
  • 503A, 503B, and cGMP experience.
  • Knowledge of regulations and guidelines (USP, NAPRA, FDA, Health Canada, state/provincial boards of pharmacy) is an asset.
  • Experience in training or teaching pharmacists and lab technicians is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Excellent communication skills; fluency in French (Québec) and English (oral & written) required.

Schedule

Full-time position, 40-hour work week.
