Composite Technician I

About the role

A composite technician at Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) performs various tasks related to the manufacture of composite parts for aircraft. The position involves laying up, braiding, and filament winding of composite materials, as well as bonding dissimilar materials and performing quality control checks.

Responsibilities

• Bonds a variety of dissimilar materials (composite, metal, or laminate) assemblies, parts, skins, components, equipment or structures into semi-finished or finished products.
• Lays out articles, cuts parts or materials to size.
• Applies liquid or solid bonding agents.
• Operates autoclave, hydraulic presses and ovens to complete bonding cycle.
• Controls conditions of heat, pressure, and timing by setting and operating various controls according to the specifications for the materials and the bonding agent being used.
• Sands, burrs and smooths over areas, apply sealing resins to cut or exposed edges.
• Maintains quality of finished product.
• Completes repairs on composite, metal or laminate bonded products using inspection and rework instructions.

Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. A background in manufacturing processes and experience with composite materials is preferred but not required. Must be able to lift heavy objects and work in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of composite materials, bonding agents, and the ability to follow detailed instructions. Proficiency in using measuring instruments and adherence to safety protocols are essential.
