Composite Lay-Up Tech I
JOB SUMMARY
Performs duties to lay-up a variety of composite parts.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works from work orders, specifications, blueprints, oral and written instructions to lay-up composites such as fiberglass, core material and prepreg.
- Lays-up according to ply orientation of warp, weft, ribbon and fiber direction, with lap and butt joint standards, in a controlled atmosphere and contaminate free environment.
- Requires the ability to plan and perform a sequence of operations where standard lay-up methods are available, while independent action is also required to use these standards to comply with the different parts configuration and geometry.
- May work under the guidance of other layup techs.
- Obtains specified materials and tools needed.
- Cuts plys with the use of templates and tools.
- Uses hand pressure and small tools to form and stretch lay-up, while avoiding wrinkles, bridging, air bubbles, gaps, contaminations, etc.
- Able to apply basic bagging operations for completions of standard operations in lay-up process.
- Identifies parts for next operation.
- Uses tools such as scissors, knives, pushing tools, markers, hammers, and other small tools.
- Maintains a clean working environment.
- Responsible for own work.
- Performs other related duties.
EDUCATION
Must have a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or bronze level WorkKeys certification. Textron Aviation Blueprint certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE
6+ months of composite lay-up experience or related composite experience.

- Working conditions may involve dirt, dust and grease.
- Could be exposed to fumes and sharp objects and loud noise.
- Exposure to heat.
- Safety shoes could be required.
