About the role
The Component Shop Technician is directly responsible for troubleshooting, repair, and service of aircraft components, including but not limited to landing gear, flight controls, sheet metal structures, NDT, and small part painting, as assigned. This position will perform maintenance, disassembly, rework, repair, replacement, re-assembly, and adjustments of various aircraft systems and structures in compliance with technical specifications, engineering instructions and FAA regulations, under the direction of the Component Shop/Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, repair, and overhaul aircraft components and systems as assigned in compliance with specifications and FAA regulations
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system and component malfunctions and perform necessary maintenance work or re-work using various tools and diagnostic devices
- Remove and replace defective components
- Sheet metal inspection and repairs
- Composite/paint inspection and repairs
- Maintain all pertinent documentation – logbooks, 8130’s, and historical data as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Working knowledge of Federal Air Regulations (FAR’s)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Possess the legal right to work in the United States
- Fluency in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Extensive knowledge of aircraft accessories, components, and other hardware
- Basic math and measurement skills
- Mechanical experience
- A current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) license
- Own hand tools
- Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts or on call as needed, including some nights, holidays, and/or weekends
Qualifications
- Physical demands: On their feet, standing, reaching with hands and arms and walking the majority of their workday. 50% of their job duties will require the ability to: climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Noise level is usually moderate to high, as consistent with a shop environment. Regularly lift, carry, and use tools and other equipment weighing up to 10 pounds for extended periods of time, and frequently perform tasks requiring you to lift and/or manipulate parts, supplies, weighing up to 50 pounds. Safe lifting techniques should be used, and a request for assistance should be made to a coworker or a supervisor.
