Component Engineer – Electronics and PCB
About the role
In this role as Component Engineer – Electronics and PCB, you will play a key part in supporting the performance and reliability of our active product portfolio, primarily focused on UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), PDU (Power Distribution Units), and STS (Static Transfer Switches) within the Data Center segment. You will serve as the responsible design authority for the Electronics and PCB components and assemblies, ensuring the quality, cost-effectiveness, and production readiness of components used across these products. You will review and implement engineering solutions, manufacturing processes, and test procedures to ensure components are built in accordance to specifications.
The work model for the role is onsite in Richmond, VA.
Responsibilities
- Manage the complete lifecycle of PCB and electronic components in collaboration with Product Engineers.
- Evaluate new PCB parts and ensure that these are built to specification and quality standards.
- Interact with contract manufacturers and EMS to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Participate in PCB layout reviews and suggest quality improvements.
- Work on new product introduction (NPI), quality, and change projects.
- Analyze electronic components using advanced tools for obsolescence and risk mitigation.
- Collaborate with design engineers on prototype builds and functional, EMI, and reliability testing.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve component and production issues.
- Ensure all assignments are completed in alignment with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory policies and standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor degree in electrical/electronics engineering or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in PCBA manufacturing and working with SMD and THD components, PCB layout, and Gerber files.
- Experience in PCBA Testing procedures: Optical (AOI, AXI), Electrical and Functional (ICT, FCT, JTAG), Solderability, Contamination, etc.
- Knowledge of PCB guidelines for component placement and IPC/CE standards (a plus).
- Experience with multilayer stack-up boards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and SAP PTC Windchill (a plus).
- Experience in CAD/SolidWorks (a plus).
- Candidates must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.

Pay
This position is expected to pay between $83,300 and $133,280 annually, based on the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
