Component Engineer
About the role
At Teledyne Controls, you help ensure the reliability and long-term availability of the electronic components that power our aircraft data management and avionics solutions. Responsibilities
- Partner with electrical and mechanical engineers to select components that meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability requirements
- Analyze Bills of Materials to verify part accuracy, lifecycle status, and sourcing strategy
- Review schematics and design documentation to understand component function within circuit designs
- Perform component and Bill of Materials reviews to identify obsolete, non-preferred, or high-risk parts and recommend qualified alternates
- Maintain component records and approved alternates within internal databases
- Track manufacturer change notices and end-of-life risks and support mitigation planning
- Collaborate with supply chain and procurement teams to prevent production or sustainment disruptions
- Support component testing, evaluation, and technical impact assessments for substitutions
- Aid in export control and tariff classifications for electronic components
- Contribute to process improvements, including automation, data analytics, and AI-enabled tools
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 1–3 years of hands-on work experience in component engineering, electrical hardware engineering or electronic product development
- Knowledge of electronic components, electrical design fundamentals, and circuit behavior – required
- Ability to interpret schematics and Bills of Materials – required
- Experience with component lifecycle management or product development – preferred
- Familiarity with obsolescence management and alternate sourcing – preferred
