About the role

The Compliance Manager is responsible for overseeing regulatory and compliance activities across the organization. This role develops, implements, and maintains policies and procedures to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, as well as internal standards. Day-to-day tasks include monitoring compliance with HIPAA, billing and coding rules, and clinical documentation requirements; conducting audits and risk assessments; and investigating and resolving compliance concerns. The Compliance Manager designs and delivers staff training, prepares reports for leadership, and works with clinical and administrative teams to address findings and implement corrective actions. The role also tracks regulatory changes, advises leadership on compliance implications, and supports quality improvement initiatives aligned with ethical and legal best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, as well as internal standards.
  • Monitor compliance with HIPAA, billing and coding rules, and clinical documentation requirements.
  • Conduct audits and risk assessments to identify compliance risks and areas for improvement.
  • Investigate and resolve compliance concerns and incidents.
  • Design and deliver staff training on compliance-related topics.
  • Prepare reports for leadership on compliance activities, findings, and corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to address compliance findings and implement corrective actions.
  • Track regulatory changes and advise leadership on compliance implications.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives aligned with ethical and legal best practices.

Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare compliance, including oversight of HIPAA, billing, coding, and regulatory requirements in a medical group or similar setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and update compliance policies, procedures, audit tools, and corrective action plans.
  • Strong skills in risk assessment, data analysis, documentation review, and report preparation for leadership and regulatory purposes.
  • Proficiency in staff training and education, with the ability to communicate complex regulatory concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for collaborating with physicians, clinical staff, and administrative teams.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and associated privacy and security standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Compliance, Business, Nursing, or a related field; advanced degree or compliance certification (e.g., CHC, CHPC) is preferred.
  • Prior experience in a compliance, quality, or regulatory role within a healthcare environment strongly preferred.
