COMPLIANCE AUDITOR
About the role
The position of Compliance Auditor within Los Angeles County Public Works is responsible for plans and coordinates departmental audits, conducts financial, compliance, and operational audits, and internal investigations of suspected fraud through the County Fraud Hotline.
Responsibilities
- Plans and coordinates departmental audits.
- Conducts financial, compliance, and operational audits and accounting system reviews.
- Collaborates with external auditors.
- Evaluates and recommends improvements to accounting systems and internal controls.
- Prepares written audit reports and management communications.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or a closely related field, including 21 semester units or 31.5 quarter units of accounting courses, including a course in auditing.
- Option I: Two years of professional auditing experience at the level of the County class of Intermediate Accountant-Auditor.
- Option II: Three years of professional accounting experience.
- A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
Physical Class
This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10-pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.

If not in English, then translation is required. International degrees must be evaluated for equivalency to US standards and indicate the number of units and unit system. - Part I: Multiple Choice and Simulation Assessment, weighted at 60%, measuring Professional Potential, Achievement, Working Relationships, Analyzing Information, Learning Quickly, Generating New Ideas, Using Time Efficiently, Working to High Quality Standards, Adapting to Change, Coping with Uncertainty, Willingness to Learn, Responsibility.
- Part II: Technical Writing Assessment, weighted at 40%, measuring Technical Knowledge in Auditing Standards and Practices, Risk Assessment and Internal Control Knowledge, Analytical and Problem-Solving Ability, Attention to Detail and Accuracy, Planning and Organizational Skills, Written Communication, Professional Judgment and Decision-Making.
Eligibility and Vacancy Information
Applicants who passed the assessment(s) are placed on a list for a period of 12 months. We will use this list to fill vacancies in Public Works as they occur.
