About the role
The Division of Pediatric Neurology at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking a Clinical Triage Nurse to join the Complex Epilepsy team. This role involves delivering professional nursing care to patients in clinic, by phone, or patient portal.
Responsibilities
- Performs management with patients' caregiver(s), chart review, care coordination, triage, and problem management.
- Discusses patient and family concerns in clinic, over the phone, and/or via the electronic health record.
- Provides patient/family education surrounding common neurological conditions.
- Communicates adjustments in treatment plan to families.
- Develops and participates in educating patients and their families about care programs.
- Communicates lab & other test results to families.
- Provides medication refills.
- Aids providers and staff with patient-related paperwork such as letters of medical necessity, DMV forms, school care plans, and preauthorization.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic patient care environment.
- Works closely with triage MA team to provide high quality, efficient care to patients and their families.
- Keeps current on advances in nursing care by participating in educational programs.
- Orients and educates new staff in nursing techniques and departmental procedures.
- Utilizes knowledge of medications, procedures, infection control, and safety precautions, and initiates appropriate interventions in crisis situations.
- Participates in total quality management to positively affect patient and system outcomes to improve care.
Qualifications
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Utah, or obtain one within 90 days of hire under the interstate compact if switching residency to State of Utah.
- Some positions may require additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS, or NRP within one year of hire.
