About the Role

We are seeking a visionary and strategic leader to oversee our Competitive Snow Sports Team and Events department at Crested Butte Mountain Resort. This role is responsible for driving the ideation, planning, and execution of a diverse portfolio of events—from ski races and competitions to bike races and community-focused ski and ride experiences. This leader will oversee a dedicated team and collaborate cross-functionally to deliver memorable, safe, and financially successful events for both our local community and visiting guests.

In addition to event oversight, this role includes managing Summer Camp, Mini Cruisers, Cruisers and Mountain Adventures Programs, and the Mountain Sports Team. Responsibilities include assisting with hiring, onboarding, and overall program organization to ensure a high-quality experience for participants and staff.

The ideal candidate is passionate about outdoor adventure, deeply connected to community, and driven to create exceptional experiences both on and off the mountain.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of a wide range of events, including Freeride and Alpine ski competitions, bike races, and community-based resort events aligned with resort goals
  • Hire, train, schedule, and manage the performance of the events team to meet the goals of the department
  • Collaborate with internal departments and external partners to ensure events are safe, well-organized, and deliver high-quality guest experiences
  • Maintain strong organization across all event logistics, including timelines, staffing plans, equipment, permitting, and communication
  • Serve as a clear and effective communicator with staff, athletes, coaches, vendors, and guests before, during, and after events
  • Oversee event setup and teardown, ensuring all equipment and venues meet operational and safety standards
  • Manage the events department’s financial performance and accountability for the department’s financial results. Track expenses, revenue, and ROI for each event
  • Ensure that industry standards/requirements are met in the construct of all race venues and activities (e.g., B-Net, Homologation, etc.)
  • Maintain compliance with local regulations and resort policies
  • Conduct post-event evaluations to identify areas for improvement and continued growth
  • Support and contribute to hiring, onboarding, and scheduling within Ski & Ride School programs (Summer Camp, Locals Programs, Mountain Sports Team)
  • Uphold CBMR’s standards for safety, guest service, and community engagement at all times

Requirements

  • Strong skiing and biking ability, with confidence operating in a mountain environment
  • Ability to lift and carry 75 pounds, and transport heavy and/or bulky equipment, including while on skis in rugged alpine environments
  • Able to withstand inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Self-starter, ambitious, and able to multitask
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) and general computer systems
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and long event days
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum age: at least 18 years old

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with event planning and execution, particularly in outdoor or mountain environments
  • Knowledge of IFSA competition standards and/or U.S. Ski & Snowboard event frameworks
  • Familiarity with resort operations and youth or competitive Snowsports programs

Pay
