About the role

The Competitive Intelligence Manager, Obesity plays a crucial role within the Obesity Intelligence and Analytics team at Amgen. This role supports the CI team in providing strategic insights and guiding optimal business positioning for all therapeutic areas across the portfolio and lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Obesity CI team in developing strategic insights and point of view on key competitive developments, implications to Amgen, and actions Amgen must take.
  • Synthesizes information from multiple sources to develop strategic insights and point of view on key competitive developments, implications to Amgen, and actions Amgen must take.
  • Works in a highly cross-functional manner and manages changing priorities across several key customers.
  • Develops productive relationships with Global and Regional teams to define business problems and develop integrated analysis plans based on standard methodologies.
  • Applies structured problem solving to collect, analyze, and report CI, incorporating primary and secondary data sources to generate meaningful insights.
  • Articulates and educates customers on the relevant impact of changing market dynamics to their business from a CI perspective.
  • Organizes and facilitates strategic exercises & competitive simulations to generate competitive insights and company plans.
  • Coordinates and facilitates CI collection efforts at major medical conferences/congresses.
  • Manages a network of primary data sources, including vendors and Amgen employees, to enable effective project delivery.
  • Affirms the reliability of CI research findings, maintaining high standards for accuracy, relevance, and quality in deliverables at all times and communicates level of evidence to key partners.
  • Presents on a regular basis in-depth analyses and summaries of results, interpreting and communicating results with recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Works to grow competitive intelligence/strategy to support other functions in the organization.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in relevant field OR Masters degree and 2 years of consulting and/or competitive intelligence experience OR Bachelors degree and 4 years of consulting and/or competitive intelligence experience OR Associates degree and 8 years of consulting and/or competitive intelligence experience OR High school diploma / GED and 10 years of consulting and/or competitive intelligence experience.
  • Advanced degree (PhD/MS/MBA) with a focus on life sciences and business preferred.
  • Experience with Life Sciences consulting work in Obesity preferred.
  • Familiarity with biopharma industry preferred.
  • Relevant experience in Obesity via prior project work, disease area knowledge preferred.
  • Prior experience in strategy/management consulting in the biopharma industry, roles of increasing responsibility accepted.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analyze data to support critical business decisions preferred.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills preferred, able to explain complex concepts clearly to a variety of audiences.
  • Evident project management skills preferred, able to manage multiple, simultaneous projects and data sources.
