Independent contractor (1099), part-time — approximately 8 hours per week at $25.00 per hour. Initial term mid-September through mid-December 2026, with intent to continue. Primarily remote in NYC, with occasional in-studio meetings and attendance at select events.

About Jiva

Jiva Performing Arts is a New York City organization dedicated to Indian classical music and dance. Founded in 2007 and based in Long Island City, we produce original work rooted in the Bharatanatyam tradition, train professional and pre-professional artists, and engage communities across the city. As we approach our 20th anniversary in 2027, Jiva is entering a growth phase focused on national touring and a stronger development infrastructure. This role exists to make that expansion possible.

About the Role

The Company Manager is Jiva’s administrative and strategic hub — the person who builds the touring pipeline, strengthens our fundraising systems, and helps tell the organization’s story. This is a pipeline-building role: the Artistic Director owns relationships with presenters and funders, and this position does the research, drafting, coordination, and follow-through that make those relationships productive.

At roughly 8 hours a week, this role can’t advance everything below at once, and it isn’t meant to. The breadth is intentional: each week the Artistic Director sets the focus, and priorities shift with the season — touring one stretch, a grant deadline the next, a marketing push the next. No two weeks look alike. The areas below are the full scope this role covers over time, not a weekly checklist. The right person is versatile, a strong writer, and comfortable moving between creative and administrative work.

Responsibilities

• Touring & Presenter Development
  • Research venues, university performing arts centers, festivals, and presenters aligned with Jiva’s work
  • Handle initial outreach and draft correspondence for review; maintain a presenter database and follow-up cadence
  • Assemble presenter packets — descriptions, tech specs, video samples, press
• Development & Fundraising
  • Compile data, work samples, and project budgets for Jiva’s grant writer
  • Support the annual fundraising campaign and donor cultivation events; draft donor correspondence for review
• Marketing & Communications
  • Respond to class and general inquiries and send studio-wide announcements (one-on-one family conversations stay with the Artistic Director)
  • Set the content calendar and direct Jiva’s social media producer, creating or editing content when needed
  • Draft and deploy the newsletter; draft impact narratives; help organize marketing events
• Operations & Growth
  • Maintain the organizational calendar; monitor the admin inbox; handle statement uploads for the bookkeeper; support contracts and event volunteers
  • Participate in strategic planning. This role is designed to grow — scope, hours, and title expand with the organization, toward a Managing Director role.

Requirements

• An exceptional writer. Much of this role is drafting on someone else’s behalf — the single most important qualification.
• Versatile and self-directed — comfortable moving between creative and administrative work and shifting focus week to week.
• 1–3 years in arts administration, development, or communications — or strong writing and organizational skills from an adjacent field. Early-career candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Comfortable with social media and a sense for content that connects; able to direct a producer and create or edit posts when needed.
• Proficient with Google Workspace and spreadsheets; comfortable using AI tools responsibly.
• Familiarity with Indian classical dance or the South Asian arts landscape is a significant plus; expertise is not required.
