Job Summary

BAYADA Habilitation is seeking a Companion/Buddy to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the local community. The role involves working part-time after school hours, including weekends, to help clients develop independence and achieve their goals.

About the Role

As a Companion/Buddy, you will build long-lasting relationships with clients in a one-on-one setting. Your responsibilities include spending time on clients' favorite hobbies and activities, supporting their independence, ensuring their safety, and fostering an environment where they can thrive as valued community members.

Responsibilities

  • Support clients in developing their independence and achieving their goals (e.g., budgeting, socializing, shopping, using public transportation, exercise)
  • Be attentive to meet the individual’s needs with dignity and respect
  • Ensure client safety and well-being in the home and community
  • Spend time on the client’s favorite hobbies and activities, like Special Olympics

Requirements

  • No prior experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 18 years of age
  • The ability to read and write in English
  • Patience, empathy, and dedication

Qualifications

  • Passion for providing opportunities to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities
  • The ability to transport clients to community activities
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills
