About the role

The Emma and Georgina Bloomberg Veterinary Center at Animal Care Centers of NYC is seeking a veterinarian who is passionate about providing accessible and affordable veterinary care. With a mission to preserve the human-animal bond and end animal homelessness in NYC, this role offers a unique opportunity to practice medicine in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Successfully manage a wide range of medical and surgical cases with varying levels of acuity.
  • Develop strong relationships with clients through clear and compassionate communication.
  • Demonstrate fiscal responsibility and prudent use of resources to maximize the number of animals served.
  • Delegate tasks to competent para-professional staff.
  • Learn, teach, and mentor others.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director, LCSW, and Practice Manager on case selection.

Required Qualifications

  • DVM, VMD, or equivalent degree.
  • Licensure in NYS to practice veterinary medicine.
  • DEA eligibility.
  • Internship or 3 years of previous clinical experience in Urgent Care with a demonstrated competency in advanced soft tissue surgery.
  • Strong surgical and diagnostic skills.
  • Can confidently work independently.
  • Fear Free certification desired or must be completed within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Able to lift at least 50 lbs.

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, able to multitask and prioritize.

Work Environment

The Emma and Georgina Bloomberg Veterinary Center operates in a shared building with animal shelters, but in a dedicated wing. The environment can be noisy due to the presence of animals and clients. Employees should be able to remain calm and professional in stressful situations involving various animal temperaments and clients.

Schedule

This is a Full-Time position with a 40-hour work week, 4 days per week, with flexibility or a fixed schedule. Part-time or intermittent work is also considered.

Pay

This position is exempt from overtime.
