We are accepting applications to fill a vacancy in Lompoc. The current vacancy is in the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services.
As a Peer Specialist for the Partners in Hope program you will model self-care and a wellness lifestyle to inspire clients in their recovery. You will act as an advocate, speaking on behalf of your clients in interactions with medical service providers and staff at various organizations or businesses; assist clients in completing forms and applications; help them in the activities of daily living and provide them support as they navigate the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Services system. We strongly encourage people who have personally experienced mental illness and who have been served by a mental health system or provider to apply.
Examples of Duties
- Provides transportation for clients, within and out-of-county, to destinations such as mental health and medical care facilities, board and care facilities, and court; delivers medications, documents, or personal belongings of clients.
- Affords support to clients in performing daily living activities such as shopping or banking.
- Observes and reports verbally and in writing to professional staff the behavior and physical state of clients; documents observations of clients and activity with clients in medical charts.
- Speaks on behalf of clients in interactions with medical service providers and staff at various organizations or businesses; assists clients in completing forms and applications.
Employment Standards
- One year of experience providing services to people with psychiatric, physical, or developmental disabilities; or,
- a combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to the employment standard listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
Background Investigation
Finalists for positions in this class will be required to pass a pre-offer, job-related background investigation.
Supplemental Information
- SELECTION PROCESS: Review applications to determine those candidates who meet the employment standards.
- Written Examination. The written examination is scheduled for late January 2009. The written examination may be eliminated if there are fewer than Eleven qualified candidates.

Paid Time Off
