Daily Operations
Key handling and access granting:
- Utilizing keysets to assist individuals with access to certain areas.
- Vetting guests entering their designated post using a documented security log and recording their access into the facility.
Communication and documentation:
- Documenting incidents, writing reports, and maintaining accurate records of their activities and observations.
- Collaborating with campus security personnel, local law enforcement agencies, and other campus stakeholders to address safety concerns and coordinate responses to incidents.
- Communicating emergencies, calls for services, crimes, and other unusual events to dispatch using their radios.
Crime Prevention and safety management:
- Patrolling designated areas of the campus on foot.
- Responding to emergencies such as medical incidents, fires, or natural disasters, providing assistance until professional emergency services arrive.
- Offering escort services to students and staff, especially during late hours or in dimly lit areas, to ensure safe passage to their destinations.
- Managing crowds during events or gatherings, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and responding to any disturbances or conflicts.
Required Skills
- A comprehensive knowledge of safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and relevant laws.
- Understanding of diversity awareness and cultural sensitivity.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Sharp observation skills for identifying security threats and safety hazards.
- Conflict resolution and de-escalation abilities to handle challenging situations effectively.
- The capacity to make quick and effective decisions while maintaining composure under pressure.
- Physical fitness and stamina for patrolling duties.
- Basic computer skills for report writing and record-keeping.
- Adaptability to varied shifts and holidays.
- Integrity and trustworthiness in handling confidential information.
- A customer service orientation, offering assistance and support to the campus community.
Required Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent and 3 - 12 months of security work experience or equivalent experience.
- Possession of an unarmed guard license from the Tennessee Bureau of Commerce and Insurance, highly recommended.
- At least 18 years of age and a good moral character.
