About the role

Responsible for providing direct support and supervision to individuals residing in community-based behavioral health or supportive living programs. The Community Residence Counselor assists residents in developing daily living skills, achieving treatment goals, and maintaining a safe and supportive environment. This role plays a vital part in promoting recovery, independence, and quality of life for individuals with mental health, substance use, or developmental conditions.

This position requires patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Support residents with daily routines, medication reminders, meal preparation, transportation, and personal care as needed.
  • Monitor resident behavior and provide interventions consistent with treatment or service plans.
  • Document observations, progress notes, and incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of individualized service plans under clinical supervision.
  • Promote a respectful, inclusive, and safe living environment aligned with trauma-informed care principles.
  • Engage residents in therapeutic, recreational, and community integration activities.
  • Respond to crises using de-escalation and safety protocols and report to clinical leadership as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with care team, family members, and external providers as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and quality assurance activities to support program effectiveness.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or Health & Human Services preferred, or Associate's Degree in a related field of study preferred.
  • Experience working in a human services, residential, behavioral health, or allied health setting (1-2 years required).
  • Experience working with individuals with mental illness, substance use disorders, or developmental disabilities (1-2 years required).
  • Medication Administration Program Certified (MAP - Massachusetts) preferred.

Skills

  • Basic knowledge of behavioral health conditions and support strategies.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain professional boundaries.
  • Ability to manage time, multitask, and respond to urgent needs calmly and effectively.
  • Commitment to person-centered care, equity, and cultural competence.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and documentation standards in healthcare or social service environments.

Additional Details

At Fernside, we provide private, attentive, individualized care for people with addiction and co-occurring mental health diagnoses, in a comfortable, renovated bed and breakfast about 1 hour west of Boston.

Work location: 162 Mountain Road

Pay

Pay range: $20.84 - $29.79/hour (Grade 4). At Mass General Brigham, base pay is determined by skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and other essential factors. The provided range is based on minimum job qualifications and does not encompass all elements of total compensation.
